A Great Summer Of Aviation Photography

It started slow with some generally crappy weather in May and June. However, my preferred conditions came often over the rest of the summer. My favourite spot for plane spotting and aviation photography at Toronto Pearson International Airport is on Director Gate near the intersection of Dixie Road and Derry Road.

This location is at the west end of runway 05/23. For airplanes to be landing at this spot, the winds generally need to be coming from the east. I prefer this end of the runway because it’s just right for my limited lens sizes.

We saw both our first Airbus A350-900 (Philippine Airlines, Lufthansa) and Airbus A350-1000 (British Airways). We saw Eastern Airlines lending a hand to Sunwing during the ongoing 737 MAX crisis. We saw Air Belgium’s Airbus A340-300 a few times, performing flights for British Airways. We, well, saw a lot of airplanes.
